HEAT AND ENERGY RECOVERY VENTILATORS IN MCKINNEY, TX BY OAKS HEAT & AIR

Modern homes run up against a dilemma during hot and cold weather: in order to have fresh air moving through the living spaces, the house must be open to the outside—but this will bring in undesirable temperatures that place strain on the heating and air conditioning system. Is it possible to enjoy high quality indoor air while still keeping the HVAC system operating at energy efficient levels?

The answer is yes: just call Oaks Heat & Air and ask about installation of a heat recovery or energy recovery ventilator. These devices permit fresh air into a house, but use the indoor temperatures to pre-condition the air before it reaches the rooms. A properly installed energy or heat recovery ventilator has a number of significant benefits for comfort and energy savings. Our technicians in McKinney will be glad to answer any of your questions about these indoor air quality improvements, as well as schedule service for them.

HOW ENERGY AND HEAT RECOVERY VENTILATORS WORK

Heat recovery ventilators (HRVs) and energy recovery ventilators (ERVs) work on a basic principle known as counter–flow heat exchange. The device is connected to the ventilation system and draws outdoor air through a vent and into the ducts. Before this fresh outdoor air reaches the home’s heater or air conditioner, it air passes through a current of stale indoor air. The two currents exchange heat, which either cools or warms the outdoor air depending on the season. The stale air is then exhausted outside, and the fresh air moves toward the heater/AC and then the rest of the house.

THE ADVANTAGES ERV AND HRV SYSTEMS

Energy recovery and heat recovery ventilators provide a number of benefits throughout the year, including:

  • Improved indoor air quality – There are many methods to boost air quality in a home, but the best way is simply to allow fresh air inside. HRVs and ERVs let you do this without suffering from a drop in comfort.
  • Savings – ERV and HRV systems recovery around 80% of the energy that would normally be lost if the house were open to the outdoors. You’ll enjoy fresh air without having to pay enormous costs to run the HVAC system.
  • Balanced humidity – This only applies to an ERV, which also transfers moisture along with heat so that you won’t have issues with dry or humid conditions in the house.

HRV VS. ERV SYSTEMS: WHICH ONE SHOULD YOU INSTALL?

Heat recovery and energy recovery ventilators have a few important differences, but are similar in so many ways that you may find it hard to determine what type will work best for your household. You don’t need to worry, however, since this is a decision to leave up to indoor air quality professionals. Our experts at Oaks Heat & Air will see that you have the right type of energy or heat recovery ventilator installed.
